Potentially unwanted applications (PUA) are a category of software that can cause your computer to run slowly, display unexpected advertisements, or, in the worst-case scenario, install additional potentially unwanted software. PUA is not considered a virus, malware, or threat; however, it may execute actions on endpoints that negatively impact endpoint performance or use. PUA can also refer to an application with a poor reputation, as determined by Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, due to certain undesirable behaviours.
